Website: bookclub.sytes.net Background : The book club was originally meant as sort of a small tribute to Mrs. McMaster. The founder and co-founder having both been in her 9 th grade literature class were eager to start a club with their favorite teacher. However since then the phenomenal interest in the book club led to it growing into a gathering place for those people that love to read good fictional books and analyze them and discuss them. Purpose: The book club is a place where friends and classmates can come outside of the class and read and discuss the theme and literary elements of books that we choose to read. The book club will not only be a place to just read and analyze books but a time for friends to get together, socialize and get to know each other, a sort of bonding time through the books. We will enjoy some nice music and some snacks while we read and discuss key themes and analytical parts of the novel we are reading. Goals/Activities: We hope to become a very successful out of school club and hope to have some fundraisers in the year to raise money for our library so that we may expand out choice of books. We will also be acting out some scenes from the books we read and even doing some projects relating to the book. Meetings: We will meet in Room 510 after school, then either stay or go to the courtyard or the auditorium (with permission) if we need the space. We will meet for approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the day and books we are reading. Meetings will be held 2-3 times a month to give members time to read the books at home. In addition we will be meeting in the same location and time with the Animal Rights club and members from both clubs are invited to participate in both and are invited but not required to stay for the other's meetings. This joint club meeting is to conserve money for snacks, increase fund raising capability and to share sponsors and club t-shirts to reduce the required dues for the clubs. Requirements/Dues: We are asking for a $2-5 donation to help pay for snacks and other miscellaneous things. Books that we read need to be purchased individually or borrowed from the library. Everyone must attend at least 3 meetings a semester in order to remain a member. Founder: Mannkyo Cho
