Jawahir Hersi-Autobiography

This is about the lives of my children and me. I was born and raised in Somalia, got married and had my children there. We were living a good life until the civil war broke out. My tribe which was one of the minority tribes, was attacked. My family lost everthing that we had owned. We ran away to the neighboring country, Kenya. From there we immigrated into the U.S. four years ago. We absolutely love it here because of all the opportunities that have been laid ahead of us. I feel that I am forutnate and blessed to be in a country like this. As of my children's father, we got separated while we were in Kenya and things did not work out and now we are divorced. He is still in Africa to my knowledge.

I live with my three children. Iman, my first daughter who goes to George Washington University; Amir, stil in high school at the North Springs High School; and Liban, my youngest, who is in the fourth grade at Alpharetta elementary School. I currently live in an apartment in Alpharetta and work at Epoch of Roswell.

Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide organization that works to build homes for the less fortunate. As a high school chapter, Northview's Habitat for Humanity Club has three main objectives; educate local businesses and peers about Habitat for Humanity, fundraise for the organization as a whole, and build houses for those who cannot afford a full priced home. Habitat houses are built by volunteers as well as the actual homeowners. In its first year the club will mainly be focused on the fundraising and educating aspects of the organization while we await our charter from the national organization.
