What is it?
The Northview High School Local School Council (LSC) is a community leadership team comprised of the principal, parents, teachers, students, and businesspersons, who work together in developing and implementing plans for school improvement.

When are the meetings?
Meetings are held each month in the conference room of the Northview HS Media Center.
LSC meetings are always open to the public. Refer to the LSC calendar for dates.

What are the duties of the LSC?
LSC provides advice and recommendations to the school principal, and where appropriate, to the Fulton County Board of Education on any matter, including curriculum, school budget priorities, community use of facilities, and most importantly helping to improve student achievement. The purpose of the LSC is to bring parents and other members of the school community together in a spirit of cooperation in an effort to improve academic achievement and to address areas of concern, including difficult education problems. The LSC will provide support and assistance for teachers and administrators, make stakeholders a part of the school-based decision-making process, share ideas for school improvement, create understanding and respect for each other's concerns, and provide advice and recommendations to the Fulton County Board of Education and the principal.

AYP – Adequate Yearly Progress – Refers to the improvements made each year in local schools. The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law requires each state to develop guidelines for determining if schools and school systems make improvement.

NCLB – No Child Left Behind - A federal education law mandating educational accountability. States have been charged with determining standards of achievement that their schools (students) are expected to meet. If schools do not meet the minimum standards (AYP), they are placed on a needs improvement list, and specific actions such as supplemental services and transfers to a school meeting AYP must be offered students. GPS – Georgia Performance Standards (formerly called the QCC for Quality Core Curriculum) – “Performance standards provide clear expectations for assessment, instruction, and student work. They define the level of work that demonstrates achievement of the standards, enabling a teacher to know “how good is good enough.” The performance standards isolate and identify the skills needed to use the knowledge and skills to problem-solve, reason, communicate, and make connections with other information. Performance standards also tell the teacher how to assess the extent to which the student knows the material or can manipulate and apply the information.” For more information: http://www.georgiastandards.org/

GHSGT – Georgia High School Graduation Tests - The Georgia Assembly established the requirement that all students seeking a Georgia high school diploma must pass testing in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics, social studies and science to graduate from high school.
