Northview High School Local School Council is electing four parent representative members. Those receiving the three highest vote totals will be awarded a two-year term through September 2009, and the fourth highest will be awarded a one-year term through September 2008. If a candidate who has earned a two-year term would prefer to serve the one-year term, then a switch can be made upon their request.
Nominations for these parent representatives were received through Monday, September 10. Parents are asked to cast their ballot between Tuesday, September 18 at 9:00 am and Thursday, September 20 at 5:00 pm. Results will be available on Friday, September 21. Votes must be cast in person at the Northview High School Main Office.

Margaret Harris Barfell - Interest: To be involved with the continued improvement and direction of Northview's academic and overall school achievement; and in particular, to assist with and help monitor the overcrowding conditions at Northview until the new high school comes online. Paul J. Bello - Interest: I am interested in contributing to the continued excellence and success of NHS. A major portion of my career includes providing education and training to my clients and industry colleagues. As a consultant, I am often called upon as a problem solver who is capable of addressing complex multifaceted situations working alongside people representing many disciplines and backgrounds. I believe that a combination of my education, experience, communications and problem solving skills and ability to work well with others will benefit the LSC in its continued efforts to assist NHS and the NHS students succeed. Darrell DeVeaux - Interest: My interest is to help work on issues and opportunities that confront Northview High School and its students, teachers and administrators. To help an already strong school reach even higher levels of achievement. Today's world is the most competitive any of us has ever known, tomorrow's will be even more so. As a Northview parent and business person, I feel it's very important for the future of our children and our community to prepare our students with the best skills, tools and experiences possible to be successful in whatever endeavor they chose. Involvement: My wife Lynn and I were recently married in Acworth and have been settling in to the Johns Creek area. Lynn , works with an Atlanta health care company negotiating contracts with local hospitals. As an entrepreneur, I started an Atlanta-based business two years ago that provides data administration and analysis to health care organizations and government agencies. I believe my business experience will prove very valuable toward the Northview LSC. Each of our daughters enjoys attending some of the many Northview sporting events and are members of such school clubs as the FBLA and NHS dance. Our daughters participate in the local soccer and softball leagues which Lynn and I support.
Jan Henderson - Interest: I'd like to serve on the NHS Local School Council in order to contribute to the high school in which my family will be a part for the next seven years. Northview has become a premier high school in GA and I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with the principal, parents and the students who are responsible for creating this success. Tricia Kopec - Interest: As a native Atlantan and parent of three Fulton County students, I would like to help NHS maintain its high academic performance, as well as continue its role as a vital, active partner in our local community. I want to ensure that NHS continues to foster student volunteerism and "giving back," and that local businesses , in turn, support the school. Involvement: Former Girl Scout Leader and religious education teacher, Four years on Findley Oaks PTA Board (two as secretary and two as treasurer), Currently serving 2 nd year as recording secretary on River Trail's PTA Board, Currently serving 2 nd year as Committee Chair of Teacher Grant at Findley Oaks.

Jerry Schriver - Interest: Since the establishment of NHS, I have watched with appreciation and admiration in its creation into a top-flight institution of excellence. My interest would be to serve as a parent representative to help enhance the continued growth in academic excellence and to see it continue to mature and prepare our students to be good citizens. Involvement: As a parent of a freshman, I am new to NHS involvement. In elementary and middle schools, my wife and I served as room parents, I was the golf team coach for the middle school, and worked on a number of teams for school activities. For the 5 th grade class trip, I was selected as one of the chaperone fathers for the boys, and also chaperoned two other class trips. I served on UNITE work teams for three years, and assisted in the Korean Community Development Committee.
Kurt Wien - Interest: Help improve, grow and evolve the NHS community for even stronger/better experience for all students, families, faculty and administrators by positively impacting communications programs and interactions with NHS and throughout the Alpharetta, Duluth, and Johns Creek Communities. Involvement: Active present and past volunteer/leader in local church community programs, Church of the Hills Pack 1000 Cub Scout Leader 4-5 years, John Creek United Methodist Church Recreation Dept 8 years as coach and mentor, Volunteer at Shakerag Elementary School in various roles over the 6-7 years including recycling program, Science Fair, Dads for PTA, Field Day, Fall Carnival, etc. |
