Parking Information

All students that submit a completed parking application will be listed for the lottery.

Students who have had ISS or OSS disciplinary actions during the 2010 spring semester will automatically have their name removed from the lottery list and do not qualify for parking in the spring.

Students involved in CBE, internship and/or other programs which allow them to leave campus early will be automatically assigned a parking space in the bus area if they meet all of the qualifications. These students must follow the same application process as every student applying for parking at NHS.

Student’s names will be drawn by an appointed committee to determine the parking space.  The first name that is drawn will be assigned to space #1 and so on until the allotted spaces are full.

70 % of the senior names will be drawn first and assigned a space. After that 30% of the Junior names will be drawn and parking spaces in the junior lot will be filled.  After this any remaining spaces will be filled by pulling names of the remaining seniors and then the remaining juniors.

Students who do NOT submit a completed parking application with attachments by Friday, May 7, 2010 will not be placed on the lottery list and will automatically go on the waiting list.

Parking Questions

I do not have my license yet.  Should I apply for a parking permit?
Yes.  As long as you have your license by the final pick-up day for parking decals which is listed on the parking calendar.

I have not seen the Drive Smart program.  Can I still apply?
Yes you can apply.  However, you will not be eligible to pick up your parking permit until you have attended the Drive Smart program.  Check the parking calendar for the dates and times of the Drive Smart shows.

I will be out of town during the permit pick-up days.  When can I pick up my permit?
Check the parking calendar for all of the pick-up dates but permits will also be available for pick-up in the attendance office the first week of each semester during lunch ONLY.

If do not pick up my decal before the 1st day of the semester, where do I park the first day of school?
You are not allowed to drive and park the first day of school if you have not picked up your parking decal.  Pick up your decal at lunch on the first day of school and then start driving to school on the second day.

I did not qualify for a parking permit.  What can I do?
A waiting list will be formed.  If you applied and turned in your information complete and on time, you have increase your chance of getting a parking space at sometime during the semester.  As spots become available, you will be notified.

What pitfalls should I avoid when applying for a parking permit?
Get your application in on time. You may go on the waiting list but your chances are slim to none if you do not get your application turned in on time.

If you wait until the last minute and do not have all the information required, your application will be considered late.

Many students do not have the required information.  You must turn in a copy of your license (or learner's permit*) and a valid insurance card along with your application.  Make sure your parent or guardian has signed the application. *If you submitted a learner's permit with your application, you must have a driver's license when you pick up your parking permit.

Can I use my car registration in place of an insurance card?
No – you must turn in a copy of a valid insurance card.  Make sure your card has an expiration date that has not been exceeded.

I do not have a car yet.  Should I apply?
If you plan on getting a car soon, you should apply registering a family car.  The car you register can be changed if and when necessary.

How do students lose their parking permit?
Students lose their permit by not following the rules they are given when they pick up their permit.  Be familiar with these rules.  The biggest infraction is parking in a different space than the one assigned to them or in the visitor’s parking lot.

Can I park in visitors to go to my College English/Math class or to attend a meeting?
No.  Students are not allowed to park in the visitor’s lot at any time for any reason before or during school.  These few slots are reserved for parents and other visitors.
