Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
No electronic devices are allowed during the school day (8:30 – 3:40). This includes but is not limited to MP3 players, radios, hand-held games, CD and DVD players, and PDAs. Calculators are allowed for specific classroom and academic uses. Staff members are required to confiscate all electronic devices, and such items can only be released to a parent/guardian after 4:00 of the following school day. The second offense will result in the loss of the device for one week. All subsequent offenses will be referred to the grade level administrator. Display and/or use of beepers, pagers, electronic devices, or cellular phones
by students during school hours is a violation of Board of Education Policy;
therefore, staff members are required to confiscate such items. Confiscated
items can only be released to a parent/guardian and will be available for
pick-up at the end of the following school day.
Telephones
Telephones located in school offices are business phones and not for general student use. The clinic or attendance office staff will phone parents of students who are ill or need to check-out. Cell phones may not be used or displayed during the school day, and must be confiscated if seen or heard by a staff member. This includes lunch and class changes.
Transcripts
Transcripts are to be obtained from the Counseling Office. The cost of a transcript is $5.00. A transcript request form must be completed. All fines and school obligations must be cleared before transcripts can be released.
Visitors
Student visitation by persons not enrolled at Northview High School is not permitted during the school day. Students are not to bring visitors, relatives, etc., to school during regular school hours.
Graduates of Northview are welcome to visit former teachers and coaches; however, such visits may not interrupt class settings. Graduates must sign-in with the office. Office personnel will determine if the staff member to be visited is available and will issue a visitor pass.
Prospective students and their parents/guardians are invited to visit Northview to assist in their transition to a new school. Such visitors should sign in through the office; the counseling office will provide a brief tour and information about the school. It is recommended that potential students call in advance for an appointment so that appropriate personnel will be available to answer questions.
Weather Emergencies
During periods of inclement weather when buses may have difficulty traveling or school may have to be closed, students and staff are encouraged to listen to local television and/or radio stations. School closing information will also be posted on www.northviewhigh.com.
Work Permits
The necessary forms and information for obtaining a work permit are available in the Guidance Office (Main Office during summer months). Students must complete the applicable information and have the employer complete the required application information before the school can complete a work permit.
