The substantive rules of the Fulton County School System Code of Conduct state that:

Students in the school system are expected to dress and groom themselves in such a way as to reflect neatness, cleanliness and safety. All students shall dress appropriately so as not to disrupt or interfere with the educational program or the orderly operation of the school. Extremes in dress and grooming will not be permitted. Examples are: lack of cleanliness in person or dress, shoelessness, "short-short" clothing; bare midriffs, tank-tops, see-through clothing, apparel which designates gangs or similar organizations, or any dress that is disruptive to the educational process. Designated dress involving school activities approved by the principal shall be acceptable. The principal or other duly authorized school official shall determine whether any particular mode of dress or grooming results in a violation of the spirit and/or the intent of this rule.

This policy is interpreted by the administration of Northview High School to mean that no clothing is acceptable that displays vulgar or obscene messages or designs, or logos referring to alcohol, tobacco, or other controlled substances, is distracting, or is inappropriately revealing.

The following policy was developed by the Northview Student Council so that our students will be in compliance with the rules of the Fulton County School system:

•  Students must demonstrate common sense and good judgment when selecting school clothing: apparel that is appropriate for social settings may not be appropriate for school.

•  Clothing that reveals the navel is unacceptable. This includes tops that are short and pants/skirts that are cut low. Shirts should touch the top of the pants when standing still.

•  Shorts/skirts/dresses must be finger-length.

•  All tops must have shoulders or sleeves. i.e. no spaghetti straps, tank tops, halters, tube tops or backless apparel.

•  No underwear is to be visible. No jeans, pants, shorts, or tops are to be worn that reveal undergarments. This applies to boys and girls.

•  Skirts, shorts, and dresses are to be in good taste. Students should be able to sit, stand, and walk without revealing underwear above or below the garment. Pajamas are not permitted.

•  T-shirts must be in good taste (no suggestive wording, pictures, graphics, or advertisements for alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or other controlled substances).

•  Shoes or other appropriate footwear are to be worn at all times.

•  Clothing that is intended for use in PE classes or for athletic practice are not to be worn as school attire. This includes tank tops for boys, and spandex items.

•  Students are not allowed to wear or display bandannas on school property.

•  Hats, headbands, grooming aides, etc., are not to be worn in the building from the time the building opens until dismissal. These items are subject to confiscation.

In addition, certain dress requirements may be applicable to specific situations such as science labs or physical education classes. The requirements will be noted on the course syllabus.

Students and parents are expected to honor the dress code so that valuable school time is not spent examining student attire to determine appropriateness. Students in violation of the dress code will be asked to call home for an appropriate change of clothing. Students may not return to class until appropriate clothing is secured. Disciplinary consequences will be assigned to students having repeat dress code infractions.
