Schedule Changes
Once classes are scheduled, it is difficult to make schedule changes because
many classes will have reached maximum enrollment. Students may not be enrolled
in a class that is considered filled. Overloading classes constitutes a violation
of State Standards and is not permitted.
Students must request a schedule change well in advance of the semester
for which the change is desired. Requests for course changes
will be granted on an "as available" basis.
After classes have been scheduled, requests for course changes will generally
be considered only for the following reasons:
the student has failed a required course and must repeat the course
the student has failed a pre-requisite and is not eligible to continue
in the sequence<
the student has failed to enroll in a course required for graduation
the student demonstrates poor achievement in a prerequisite course
and is advised by both the teacher and counselor or administrator not to
enroll in a more advanced course
there is a scheduling conflict or a course has been cancelled
Requests for changes of a lunch period, class period or teacher will
not be
honored. Northview High School reserves the right to make adjustments
to student
schedules due to changes in enrollment and/or to balance class
sizes.
Students enrolled in an Honors or AP class requesting a change to a regular
level course are expected to complete the first semester before the change
will be made.
All students will be enrolled in six classes (or the equivalent thereof)
and a lunch period; this policy cannot be waived.
Graduation
Graduation is a ceremony held to recognize the years of work and dedication
of the graduating students. It is a ceremony of reflection and dignity. The
ceremony itself is optional; therefore, students who distract from the dignity
of the graduation ceremony at any time will not be allowed to participate and/or
will have their diplomas withheld until restitution to the school is made.
Attendance at graduation practice is required for any student who wishes
to participate in the graduation ceremony. Students must adhere
to dress requirements and only display approved ceremonial
accessories during graduation.
Diplomas and all school records will be held until restitution
is made for any students who attempt to disrupt the graduation
ceremony.
Release of
Records
In accordance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, school records
may be released only with permission from a custodial parent if the student
is under 18 years of age except in cases where the records are required by
an educational agency in which the student seeks to enroll. If the student
is 18 or older, he/she may grant permission for the release. No student records
will be sent until all financial and/or equipment obligations are cleared
