Step 1 – Research colleges for academic, financial and personality fit. Make application to the colleges of your choice. Submit online if possible. Double check that your Legal Name, Social Security Number and Birth Date are entered correctly. Note any deadlines imposed by the college, and plan ahead by two to four weeks (Step 2-6).

Step 2 – Contact the testing agency and order your SAT/ACT scores sent to the colleges. Plan ahead! This can take six weeks. SAT: www.collegeboard.com or (866) 756-7346; ACT: www.act.org or (800) 525-6926.
Step 3 – Request teacher recommendations (if asked for by the college) at least four weeks ahead of deadlines. Each recommendation should be in a sealed Northview envelope with the teacher's name signed on the back flap. Keep in mind that a verbal “thank you” or card from you to recommender (teacher, counselor, etc) would be appropriate and appreciated.
Step 4 – For counselor recommendations, complete a Senior Information Sheet and give it to your counselor at least two weeks before the college deadline date. Optional is the Parent Response form which provides additional helpful information about you.
Step 5 – Prepare a 9x12 self sealing envelope addressed to the college. Use a Northview High School label for the return address. At a minimum, affix 3 first class stamps to the upper right corner. Insert into the envelope any documents required by the college, such as teacher recommendations, essays, résumé, resident card, etc.
Step 6 – Complete the Transcript Request form on the back side of this sheet. Attach the counselor section (if any) , and the transcript fee to the outside of the envelope. (See example on the bulletin board in the Career Center). Double check your packet for completeness and accuracy before turning it in to Mrs. Unger.
