2007-2008 Testing Schedule


Advanced Placement Testing (AP)
- These are College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) sponsored tests, which many colleges give advanced standing and/or credit depending on a student’s AP score. These exams are administered in May. The Fulton County School System and the College Board award an Advanced Placement Diploma. Students may earn an AP Diploma by:

  • Successfully completing 5 or more year-long AP course (or equivalent in half-year courses)
  • Scoring 3 or higher on the exams for at least 5 year-long AP courses (or equivalent in half-year courses)
  • Maintaining overall cumulative averages of 80 or higher in AP courses        


American College Testing Program (ACT)
- a test used for college admission eligibility which measures aptitude and skill in English, mathematics, reading, natural sciences, and writing. www.act.org

Differential Aptitude Tests (DAT) and Career Interest Inventory (CII) - The DAT is a series of tests that measures your ability to learn and succeed in a number of different areas (Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, Abstract Reasoning, Perceptual Speed and Accuracy, Mechanical Reasoning, Space Relations, Spelling, Language Usage, and Scholastic Aptitude). The CII provides information about your interest in a variety of fields of work and school subjects and/or activities.

End of Course Tests (EOCT) - Beginning in December 2003, the Georgia Department of Education requires students in certain courses to take an end of course test (EOCT). There are eight End-of-Course Tests: Algebra 1, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, Economics, U.S. History, 9th grade Literature & Composition, and American Literature & Composition. Students who take courses during Night School, Summer School and Online have to take the End-of-Course Test for courses completed in these extended day/extended year environments.http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/curriculum/testing/eoct.asp

Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) - Students must pass all five sections (English/ Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, and Writing) of the GHSGT as one of the requirements for earning a high school diploma. www.doe.k12.ga.us GHSHT Science practice test online http://info.georgiacrct.org


Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT)
- this test is an abbreviated form of the SAT I and is designed to give juniors an opportunity to practice taking a test which is similar but shorter (I hour) than the SAT I. It is given in October of the junior year. Fulton County School System also administers the test to ninth and tenth graders. National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) - scores from the PSAT of juniors are used to determine if a student qualifies for a National Merit Scholarship. www.collegeboard.com

Scholastic Assessment Test I (SAT I) - a college admissions test, graded on a scale from 200 to 800, that measures students’ mathematical verbal ability, critical reading knowledge, and writing skill.  www.collegeboard.com

Scholastic Assessment Test II (SAT II) - one-hour tests offered in subjects such as English, foreign language, science, history, and mathematics. These tests measure a student’s knowledge of particular subject areas. Some colleges require the SAT II test(s). Students should check with each college to determine whether it is necessary to take the SAT II test(s). www.collegeboard.com


Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - a test used to evaluate the English proficiency of those students whose first language is not English. http://www.ets.org/toefl/ or www.collegeboard.com
